At sunset, the village of Roussillon with its red and orange buildings seems to go up in flames.
The ocher and red colored rocks and quarries form a breathtaking spectacle of colour. You can walk between the most colorful canyons, enjoy the typical French architecture on a terrace or stroll through the narrow but lively streets. The market is on Thursday morning.
The exploitation of natural pigments from the ocher mines provided the municipality with large revenues until the appearance of artificial dyes.
Via the specially developed footpath 'Sentier des Ocres' (paying), you can walk through the old ocher quarries and enjoy the magnificent landscape with warm colors that contrast with the intense green of the Mediterranean vegetation.
Through the route "Les Ocres à vélo (pdf) and (gpx), you can discover the beautiful colorful landscapes by bike from the Luberon.
In the pleasant village there are quite a few shops and a number of art galleries.
