The Provence region is known for its beautiful fields of purple lavender.
Most of these fields are found around Bonnieux, Apt, Lourmarin and Roussillon, Plateau de Valensole and Plateau de Sault.
Also at the Abbey of Notre-Dame de Sénanque.

Lavender only flowers for a few months in the Provence, it differs depending on the region:
Verdon to Haut Provence: mid-June - July
From Drôme to Haut-Vaucluse: mid-June - end of July
Luberon to Lure: early July - mid-August
Ventoux-Luberon: beginning of July - end of August
Convenient cycle paths make the city ideal for exploring by bicycle.

Provencal herbs: The composition is not set in stone, but most provencal herbs contain: rosemary, savory, marjoram and thyme.
Often sage, basil, oregano and even lavender are added. Other possible ingredients: fennel seeds, tarragon, chervil, bay leaf, lovage.
Traditionally, no rosemary was used for this blend in the Provence because the taste is too overpowering.
The name of 'provencal herbs' is not protected, sometimes herbs are used that do not come directly from the Provence.

Use them in meat stews and game dishes or to give a Mediterranean touch to baked potatoes or salads.
Mixed with a little olive oil and a few cloves of garlic, you can make a Mediterranean marinade for fish or meat.
Herbs of Provence are the herbs for a barbecue. A handful of these spices over smoldering charcoal creates an instant barbecue flavor.

Marseille's soap is not a brand but the process.
In the 17th century, French law already provided for how Marseille's soap had to be made in a specific way, in a specific region with clearly defined raw materials.
This guarantees the quality of the soap and the origin of the ingredients.
This protection is no longer available today, so the soap is on sale in various qualities, the origin and raw materials of which may be questionable.
